Notes
The geographic distribution of patents is based on the residence of the inventor whose name appears first on the patent. Per capita patents issued per 10,000 population is based on the number of utility (invention) patents issued in an area divided by the population of the area and then multiplied by 10,000. For example, in 2004, there were 12.12 patents issued for each 10,000 persons in Austin.
