The IC² Institute invites scholars from around the globe to research and write in-residence for one year. The Visiting Scholars program was formalized in 1992 through the University of Texas at Austin's International Office and since then has welcomed visitors from U.S., Asia, Australia, Europe, and Latin America. Over the years IC² Institute has welcomed over 100 Visiting Scholars/Researchers from 16 countries including a range of academic disciplines and professional occupations. Common topics of study include regional economic development; incubator management; technology transfer and commercialization; technology marketing; technology-, civic- and social-entrepreneurship; and E-Learning. Travel and living expenses are not provided by the IC² Institute. One visiting scholars program in 2000 to 2001 focused on science and technology commercialization, including internships in either the IC² Institute's masters program or the Austin Technology Incubator. Launched by training and workshop grants from the Eurasia Foundation and Los Alamos National Labs, this program included nine scholars and managers from Russia. Their training led to the establishment of a masters program in technology commercialization that is currently being offered by the Academy of National Economy, Moscow. Another program brings top level managers from the Korea Electrical Power Corporation (KEPCO) to reside in Austin and study the evolution of the energy industry for six months. Similarly, for several years, Korea Telecom has sponsored visiting scholar stays for select leaders within their company ranks. This research has spanned a wide range of topics related to the Telecommunications industry including wireless and rural networks.
