"Connecting Innovation to Global Markets"

Mission Statement

The Global Commercialization Group (GCG) designs and delivers technology commercialization programs based on proven methodologies for wealth creation and access to global markets that generate early results with sustainable outcomes.

Our Vision

IC² Institute’s Global Commercialization Group (GCG) is committed to influencing the rate of growth and success of regions that have been left behind in the dramatic emergence of Knowledge Economies domestically and internationally. The Institute has joined the World Bank, USAID and Foundations in their support of emerging economies from the former Soviet Union. Additionally, GCG is spearheading private sector development initiatives in Mexico, Poland, Hungary, India and the Middle East that are sponsored by US defense companies. GCG is employing the lessons learned over 30 years in Austin to solving the challenges facing emerging economies to provide stability through global competitiveness.

Our Uniqueness

IC2 Institute’s Global Commercialization Group (GCG) facilitates the growth and development of innovative, high-growth technology-based companies. GCG's key component is to provide a unique “know-how” transfer allowing for self-sustainability. In order to generate early program results, GCG utilizes local science and innovation from the beginning. GCG is proactive with business development in the International markets and realize that markets are the drivers behind business creation and innovation. Through GCG's Network Experts, world-class business professionals, universities and organizations, solutions are provided to these startup ventures which will allow them to respond quickly and effectively to the particular challenges of their business and social environments in their region as well as in the global marketplace. GCG is a strategic partner of local industry, government, and The University of Texas at Austin.

Global Commercialization Group (GCG)

A program of the IC² Institute at The University of Texas at Austin, GCG has a proven record of success for framing and managing custom, regional development programs based on innovation management, technology commercialization, and international market development for multinational corporations, foreign governments/organizations, and international donor organizations and foundations. GCG’s new direction and objective is to include UT faculty members and staff in its programs by partnering to jointly-define collaborative, solutions-based programs that integrate the university’s unique capabilities, know-how, and technologies.

The IC² Institute

As an interdisciplinary research unit of The University of Texas at Austin, the IC² Institute has advanced the theory and practice of entrepreneurial wealth creation. The theories and hypotheses developed at the Institute are tested in life-scale through several world-recognized programs:  the Austin Technology Incubator, one of the world's most prominent business incubators; the Bureau of Business Research, to provide Texas leaders with research data to strengthen the state’s economy; the Global Commercialization Group, to catalyze emerging knowledge-based economies throughout the world, and a Master of Science degree program in technology commercialization to equip students to transfer technologies from the lab to the marketplace. Supporting these programs is a proactive staff, an award-winning faculty, the alumni of ATI and the MSTC program, as well as a network of about 240 IC² Global Fellows who extend the talent reach of the institute at home and abroad.
