PAUL ZUKOWSKI

Assistant Director - Contracts & Development

Paul's 14-year career in new venture creation, technology commercialization and new product and service development encompasses a unique blend of business and technical experience at startup and large organizations. His leadership roles include: strategic business development, sales and product management, international government relations, corporate governance and chief technology positions. A large component of Paul’s business history involves developing international markets and technology transfer between various countries.

Currently, Paul is the Assistant Director of Contracts and Development for the Global Commercialization Group (GCG) at the IC² Institute at The University of Texas. He is responsible for new international business and program development. The Institute was founded on the belief that science and technology are resources for economic development and enterprise growth. Such programs involve a wide range of business know-how transfer, training, business development and relationships with early-stage investment sources and corporate entities around the world. Paul has pioneered a new model of financing such projects through the defense offset and global industrial development activity.

Paul came to Austin, Texas in 1994 to start a Wireless Cable Company which delivered Cable TV and Broadband Data services during the emergence of wireless microwave technologies (MMDS). The launch of United States Wireless Cable marked his entrance into the Television and Broadband Data markets where he served as CTO and later as President of the company.

After managing an acquisition of United States Wireless Cable in 1996 by a larger, publicly held rival, Paul launched a new business unit dedicated to digital TV systems software design at Concero, a company that provided software development services to large corporate clients. This new business unit grew rapidly by helping develop digital TV technology for clients such as Scientific Atlanta and Bell South. Later, Paul left Concero to take a Product Management role at Broadjump, a new startup in Austin which pioneered the early market of cable modem provisioning software. This company deployed its cable modem solutions with most cable companies in North America and helped enable broadband services for such operators as Time Warner, Cox Communications, Comcast and Charter.

After a merger of BroadJump with Motive, Inc in 2001, Paul co-founded Alticast, Inc. with Korean partners and Samsung Electronics. Alticast was a leader in developing software solutions for the interactive TV standard called MHP. Paul was the Vice President of Global Business Development and his responsibilities included building strategic technology partnerships and expansion of the company’s business in Europe and Asia.

Paul received a B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas Tech University in 1992.
