The University of Łódź

The University of Łódź was founded on 24th May 1945 as a continuator of achievements and traditions of educational institutions functioning in Łódź in the interwar period: The Teachers' Training Institute (1921-1928), The Higher School of Social and Economic Sciences (1924-1928) and a branch of the Polish Free University (1928-1939). Professor Teodor Vieweger, the Rector of The Polish Free University was an initiator of establishing a university in Łódź under its original name: "The State University - The Free University." The first rectors of The University of Łódź were outstanding representatives of the Polish science: Tadeusz Kotarbiński, Józef Chałasiński, Jan Szczepański.

In the academic year 1945/1946 The University of Łódź was divided into six faculties: the Faculty of Pharmaceutics, the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, the Faculty of Law and Economics and the Faculty of Dentistry. Its staff was composed of 530 faculty members and the number of students amounted to 7,147, which represented 12.7% of the total number of students in Poland at that time.

Today The University of Łódź is one of the biggest Polish universities and it has 11 faculties:

Biology and Environmental Protection,
Economics and Sociology,
Philology,
Philosophy and History,
Physics and Chemistry
Mathematics
Geographical Sciences,
Educational Sciences,
Law and Administration,
International and Political Studies,
Management

Innovation Centre FIRE

The Foundation Innovation Centre was set up, due to increase the scale and efficiency process of transferring new technology into Polish economy. The Innovation Centre FIRE was founded by state-owned Agency for Industrial Development. Establishment has been initiated by the Minister of Economy.

The mission of Innovation Centre FIRE is to stimulate both market and financial development of start-up firms which are operating in new technology sector and are offering product that has a high market potential.

Foundation’s main activity is to support start–up enterprises based on new technologies . In order to be successful the Foundation is building strong synergetic links with scientific, political and business communities.

Development of start-ups is supported in 3 steps:
1st – identifying innovative ideas and selecting the best ones,
2nd – creating a new company, its start
3rd – provide a 2 years programme of coaching, advise and financial support to put the new company into business networks providing its market success.

Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDOC)

Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) was set up by the Government of Malaysia in 1992 to spearhead the development of technology businesses in Malaysia. Its initial role was to concentrate on the promotion and commercialization of local research and invests in new ventures that can bring in new technologies from abroad.From those investment activities, MTDC has evolved to become a venture capital outfit and has been the leading venture capitalist in the country long before the concept became familiar and accepted in Malaysia.
