Examples of IC² - Global Commercialization Group (GCG’s) economic development programs:Armenia ▪ IC² GCG worked with the government of Armenian, the US Agency for International Development, and other organizations to develop, assess, and revise the Armenian Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Master Strategy. Australia ▪ Hi-tech development for the State of Queensland ▪ IC² Technology Assessment process technology for the Greater Adelaide Area ▪ International Desert Knowledge Innovation Centre initiative for regional innovation system strategies. Brazil ▪ Transferred IC² methodologies and the "Austin model" for technology-based growth for the country ▪ Hi-tech study for the state of Parana, Brazil ▪ Workforce development program. Chile ▪ Currently working with the Chilean Economic Development Agency to plan a program including Chilean incubator development, technology commercialization training, and international acceleration of Chilean innovation. Hungary ▪ GCG has partnered with Valdeal ZRt. to create a Hungarian international technology enterprise center in Budapest. The center will be a competitive, for-profit entity serving as a model for wealth creation in a global knowledge economy. India ▪ GCG has implemented a two-year technology commercialization and business development program in the nation of India. The IC² India Innovation Program is intended to be a high-visibility program designed to attract the best early-stage Indian technologies. Japan ▪ Management of the Japan Industry and Technology Management Training program ▪ Fostered growth of Keystone Studio ▪ Mentored managers from Daiwa House on e-business in the housing industry. Jordan-USTDA ▪ In 2006, GCG conducted a feasibility study and developed a business plan for a Jordan Science and Technology Initiative. This work was funded through the US Trade and Development Agency. Working with a broad coalition of American and Jordanian public and private stakeholders, the team reported on a joint public and private initiative to accelerate the development of Jordan’s knowledge economy and establish a high tech center for both domestic and regional wealth creation. Based on this initial phase of work, GCG will partner with regional stakeholders and other interested parties and donor organizations to help implement significant and sustainable programs in Jordan in 2008. Kazakhstan▪ GCG was engaged in a project to provide business incubation support for the National Innovation Fund (NIF) of Kazakhstan. The project involved conducting an in-country assessment of potential for a successful technology-business incubation program in Kazakhstan and provided strategic guidance, manager training, and initial operational support for the opening of two business incubators in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Malaysia ▪ In 2007, GCG provided a workshop of six modules on technology commercialization and entrepreneurship for the Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC). The workshop was delivered in Kuala Lumpur over a four-month period for approximately fifty representatives of MTDC and other Malaysian organizations interested in accelerating Malaysian innovation in global markets. MTDC staff were also trained in the curriculum of the workshop for re-delivery. Mexico, national: GCG, in conjunction with the United States-Mexico Foundation for Science (FUMEC), operates a technology business accelerator at The University of Texas at Austin. The program, “TechBA-Austin,” is sponsored by the Mexican Ministry of Economy, and brings representatives of established Mexican technology businesses to Austin and provides them with office space and support for accelerating their businesses in the U.S. or international markets. Additionally, TechBA-Austin works with companies based in Mexico who are preparing for expansion, but are not yet ready to open a U.S. office. These “pre-acceleration” companies receive training and support via seminars and consultations in both Mexico and Austin. TechBA-Austin has operated since 2005 and has worked with over 45 Mexican companies. New companies are assessed and admitted as space becomes available. In the past two and half years, TechBA-Austin has generated over $30M in revenue for participating companies. Nuevo Leon, Mexico▪ GCG is engaged in the third phase of a program for the INVITE organization of the state of Nuevo Leon, Mexico. GCG works with INVITE began in 2004 and is expected to continue at least through 2007. Poland ▪ GCG designed and operated a four-year project to provide knowledge-based economic development programs for Poland (2003-2007). The programs were funded through a Lockheed Martin-Poland offset agreement and included an assessment of technology commercialization in Poland, the establishment of two new technology business incubators in Warsaw and Lodz, the transfer of the UT Master of Science in Science and Technology Commercialization degree program to the University of Lodz, the establishment of a technology commercialization “Innovation Center,” delivery of workshops for entrepreneurs, and international business development on Polish technologies resulting in new business, customers, or partners in US or other markets.
