Job Description
We are currently recruiting for a C++ Programmer to join our team in Dallas, Texas. You will work with a highly experienced and diverse team, including leading universities and research institutes, that are continually tackling the most challenging problems.  You will have the opportunity to become intimately involved in creating new biometric products.
 
Technical  Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in a software development role, w/ strong C++ Development skills
  • Understands and adheres to sound software development methodologies
  • Knowledge and experience developing Image Processing algorithms
  • Strong math background
  • Embedded software development experience for portable applications
  • Practical application experience with Matlab
  • Security clearance a plus

General Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Physics, or Engineering preferred
  • Strong work ethic – self starter
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to work effectively with and manage remote research/development teams
  • Some travel required
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

High Tech Rochester (HTR) is a not-for-profit economic development organization focused on the Greater Rochester, New York technology and high growth business sector.  HTR assists the development of new and emerging businesses through the following organizations and programs:

  • the Lennox Tech Enterprise Center, a high technology business incubator;
  • the Rochester BioVenture Center, a life science, wet lab incubator;
  • the HTR Technology Commercialization Program; and
  • RENEW 2.0, an alternative energy entrepreneurial support program.

Through its Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), the organization improves the competitive position of small manufacturing firms. Additionally, HTR serves as New York’s designated Regional Technology Development Center for the Finger Lakes Region.   

HTR works in collaboration with the many economic development, educational, research and government organizations in the Rochester area.  HTR was organized in 1987 by three founding members, the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce, Rochester Institute of Technology and the University of Rochester. Since 2007, HTR has had an independent Board comprised of major community stakeholders, with the University of Rochester as the sole legal member. The organization receives significant financial support from the New York State Office of Science, Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR®), New York's high-technology economic development agency, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), and the U.S. Department of Labor Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) grant.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The President & CEO of HTR will report to an active and engaged Board of Directors to continue to achieve strong growth and results.  The Board is seeking an experienced leader who will lead HTR’s efforts to continue to grow its impact in the Rochester area.

The President & CEO will:

  • be responsible for the overall performance of HTR and its programs;
  • lead the process to develop HTR’s strategic and operating plans and communicate the corporate vision and strategy to employees, board members, council members, and funding partners;
  • understand HTR client needs and establish processes and employee competencies  that fulfill those needs;
  • guide and review corporate and specific marketing plan creation and implementation, build relationships with key influencers and prospective clients, and champion the HTR…the innovator’s edge brand;
  • guide and review corporate publicity and build relationships with the press;
  • build collaborative, tangible activities with organizations in economic development;
  • engage Entrepreneurs-in-Residence in HTR’s technology commercialization work;
  • maintain relationship and communication with the various HTR funding sources and develop new sources of funds;
  • continuously develop new initiatives to address emerging needs;
  • inform and engage the Board of Directors;
  • develop direct reports and ensure the development of the HTR team; and
  • ensure that HTR meets its financial and operating objectives.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will be a strategic leader who possesses outstanding communication and organizational skills with a track record of success.  He/She will have the vision, breadth and flexibility to work effectively with a wide range of individuals and within dynamic professional settings.  The successful candidate will bring strong networking skills and will represent HTR in the community. The new President & CEO must be able to gain credibility and quickly build relationships with technology and high-growth entrepreneurs, the business community and the Greater Rochester community in general. He/She will have a high level of discernment with the ability to focus and prioritize.

Other key professional requirements/qualifications include:

  • unquestionable integrity with a passion for and a commitment to the mission and values of HTR;
  • an undergraduate degree (technical degree preferred) and an MBA or other relevant graduate training or experience;
  • ten years of business experience and managerial responsibility in a fast-paced entrepreneurial setting;
  • demonstrated ability to establish strong business, university, nonprofit, and community partnerships;
  • a proven record of successful engagement with small businesses and an understanding of their needs; and
  • a record of inclusive and collaborative management/leadership with diverse constituencies;

Additional professional experiences/qualifications that are preferred include:

  • experience in working with State and Federal funding;
  • experience with a start-up company;
  • experience in technology commercialization and/or working with or consulting with a  technology company;
  • economic development or business incubator experience including the recruitment and coordination of mentors and consultants;
  • experience raising venture financing or working with the venture capital community; and
  • experience working with nonprofit and/or government funding agencies and sources.

Engineering Scientist

Purpose of position To lead and execute software development, research, and architecture for the Digital Media Collaboratory (DMC).

Essential functions Serve as a research engineer on software research projects, determining development strategy in collaboration, and directing junior researchers as necessary. Develop system architecture and technical integration strategy for research projects. Implement standards-compliant security schemes for software research projects and develop automated QA for web applications. Cultivate agile teams and techniques within DMC, recommending and implementing changes to improve productivity, cycle-time, on-time delivery, and yields. Collaborate with project stakeholders to determine requirements for software research projects. Represent DMC in sponsor/client meetings, and contribute to proposals and project planning for research projects. Collaborate with project stakeholders to determine requirements for software research projects. Represent DMC by making presentations and writing papers for conferences. Additionally, report and present findings to project directors, principal investigators, and sponsors. Document processes according to federal and state policies and contribute to project reports.

Required qualifications Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer and information science or other applied sciences. Three years of applied research experience. Experience in software development, with Java and related tools (ANT, Eclipse), with JSP/Servlet containers, with network engineering (segmented networks, routing/switching equipment, standard applications such as DNS, DHCP, iptables, etc., with ORM and SQL databases especially including Postgresql and MySQL. Candidate must have a demonstrated ability to learn and acquire skills quickly to accommodate rotating menu of complex and challenging research projects involving web applications, unix-based build automation, design of installation tools, etc.Work experience at a university and familiarity with university processes. Program Manager

Purpose of position Manage projects involving the commercialization of technology businesses and the promotion of technology entrepreneurship in a variety of regions around the world.

Essential functions Plan implementation of programs and best delivery options: schedules, resources, timelines. Report on progress of implementation to Program Director. Plan and track expenditures for staff, consultants, contractors, travel, etc. Adhere to budget and present weekly reports on expenditures mapped to budget. Adhere to university & departmental policies/procedures for authorizations and payments. Hire and manage the work and travel of consultants and contractors. Manage communications with project sponsors. Maintain frequent email and telephone communication with sponsor and partners on deliverables and future programs and report on those communications to Program Director, Sales Director, and Unit Director.Develop curricula and plan workshop training programs. Manage delivery of instructions for best outcomes and collect feedback from participants. Manage completion of business development deliverables by communicating and working with the GCG business development team, project sponsors, and representatives of technologies. Manage the processes for screening technologies appropriate for business development. Provide assistance to facilitate international business deals.

Required qualifications Bachelor's degree. Five years of program management experience. Five years of experience developing business plans for technology companies. Experience working internationally. Business development, strategy, and marketing experience. Strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated organizational and management skills. Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficient in MS Office. Professional demeanor and evidence of sensitivity in dealing with foreign cultures. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred qualifications More than five years of relevant business development experience including experience facilitating licensing agreements and business deals for early-stage innovations. Experience managing international projects and negotiating business transactions with foreign parties.
