Monterrey Program

CIMAV Logo     IC2 in Monterrey

The Center of Investigation for Advanced Materials (CIMAV), in partnership with The University of Texas at Austin, offers the Master of Science in Technology Commercialization (MSTC) Program in Monterrey, Mexico. Graduates earn an MSTC degree from CIMAV and a Certificate of Completion from The University of Texas at Austin.

This elite, one-year program educates individuals on the processes required for the successful creation of new products, new services and new ventures. The MSTC Program focuses on technology commercialization and acquiring the skill set necessary to take a product from lab to market. The Program teaches candidates how to "bridge the gap" between intellectual property (technology) and the needs of the marketplace.

One Year

The Program begins in August with a required Orientation in Monterrey, Mexico. Classes begin in September and are held at CIMAV in the Research & Technology Innovation Park (PIIT). Classes meet in Monterrey four consecutive days each month, Thursday through Sunday. In addition, faculty and candidates interact online throughout the year. If applicable, candidates work with their employers to create a schedule that enables them to earn their MSTC degree while continuing to work full time.

Curriculum

The twelve-course curriculum emphasizes action-based learning as candidates assess actual technologies and innovations. In teams, candidates collaboratively develop market strategies and business plans for these technologies. During one week of the Program, candidates travel to Austin, Texas, for classes, meetings with technology commercialization experts and to present their business plans to a panel of investors.

Faculty & the Kozmetsky Vision

MSTC faculty rank among the best worldwide in their respective fields. Faculty members are selected from the renowned IC² Institute Fellows and numerous Colleges within The University of Texas at Austin. MSTC faculty carry on the vision of Dr. George Kozmetsky, former Dean of the McCombs School of Business, Michael Dell’s mentor and co-founder of Teledyne. Using expertise culled from successful entrepreneurial ventures throughout the world, Dr. Kozmetsky founded The University of Texas MSTC Program in 1996 to meet 21st century demands for accelerated commercialization of emerging technologies. The MSTC Monterrey Program was launched in 2008.
